It's almost RACE DAY!

Wow, where did the time go! With only two short weeks till race day, our amazing runners are entering their final stages of race training. We caught up with some of our runners this week to see how their training progress is going.

Did you know that most marathon runners reduce the length of their training runs leading up to race day, instead of increasing the length?

This is due to the importance of rest and recovery prior to a race. It can sometimes be worse to push yourself to hit marathon levels every week leading up to the race as this puts strain on your body and mind – by decreasing the length of your runs and focusing instead on regular, low-level exercises such as cycling, swimming, or walking this gives your body a chance to heal and recover from any strain it’s been facing so that when race day comes around you can tackle it easily! These low-level exercises continue to build your stamina, and keep your muscles ready for action while not putting too much performance pressure on your body.

We are so proud of our runners for knowing when to push forward and when to listen to their bodies and take the time they need to rest. In recent weeks our runners have been busy with muddy trail conditions, kit trials, misbehaving running companions (dogs who don’t seem to understand the importance of staying on the trail haha), and more!

This team have been hard at work fundraising in all sorts of forms – from quizzes to park runs. From these efforts, our running team has encouraged the community to donate a rapidly increasing sum of £4,352 in support of NAYC & ACUK Ltd. and our work enabling young people to release their potential.

This fundraising will be put towards a variety of endeavours, specifically focusing on;

Youthwork

Our youthwork association is based in Northampton and supports nearly 150 youth groups in the local area helping to set up new groups, support existing ones and provide training and resources for leaders.  Recently we employed a youth worker to reach out to the community in the Midlands and help churches and youth groups with support and guidance in their ministry.

Action Centres

Our centres include Pioneer Centre in Shropshire, Whitemoor Lakes in Staffordshire and King’s Park Conference & Sports Centre in Northampton.  The centres welcome youth groups, schools, faith groups and charities for school residentials, conference events, camps, training courses and fellowship weekends.  Young people enjoy rafting, canoeing, kayaking, high ropes, abseiling, zip wire, tennis, roller skating, trampolining and lots more!

Training Programme

The Firm Foundations Instructor gap year programme equips young adults for the outdoor industry whilst developing them into well rounded adults.  Our trainee instructors gain industry standard qualifications and learn how to release potential in young people coming through our centres.

This fundraising can literally change the lives of young people from across the country. So consider donating today, and you can help us make a difference for the next generation.
